On Monday, John Watson, publican of the "BLUE BELL" in Church
Street, was charged with suffering tippling in his house, on Sunday, the 17th ult.,
during the hours of divine service. The charge having been proved,
the defendant was convicted in the poenalkty of 10s. and costs.

The Prince of Wales The whole of the town centre was trimmed up in a similar way to the Preston Guild events, but specifically regarding the Blue Bell Hotel, it recorded: "...….but the most effective display in this section is that outside the Blue Bell public-house, which is most extensive. At the bottom of the roof are the Lion and Unicorn of large dimensions, flanked on either side by a smaller lion and surmounted by variegated flags. In front of the house below, are the Prince of Wales feathers" and numerous streamers, flags, and devices, and undoubtedly this is the most imposing of any Church Street decorations."
