At the Licensing Sessions of September 1870, Mr Plant appeared for Ellen Massey, and told the Court that a spirit licence was badly wanted for the house. The applicant had kept the house for four years, and there had been no complaint. The rent was £28 and the house was assessed for £21. There were five rooms downstairs, besides a back kitchen and back yard. Upstairs there were five bedrooms. The house was an excellent one, and well-adapted for a spirit licence. The licence was refused.
