I WILL ADD FURTHER EXAMPLES AS
Preston Guardian 20th December 1884
*****
Carrier business of Richard (Dick) Gornall
1930's until about 1954
This photograph of Dick's wagon was taken in Chatburn Road Longridge during the war and the blackout shades can be seen attached to the headlamps.
On his journey from Longridge, through Goosnargh and Broughton, to the Waterloo Hotel in Friargate, Preston, picking up goods as he went, he would be alerted by his customers by them leaving a brush leaning on the front of the property. By so doing, it eliminated any non-productive stops. Simple, but effective, and dispensed with a need for a telephone.
