ALLEGED THEFT OF BICYCLE
At the Preston County Police Court, yesterday morning, Joseph Kay, a bricklayer, residing in Hilton Street, Preston, was charged with stealing a bicycle at Grimsargh, on Sunday last.
It appeared that on the date in question a weaver, named William Martin, residing at Longridge, called at the Plough Inn, Grimsargh, leaving his bicycle outside.
Whilst sitting in the bay of the window he saw the prisoner mount his machine and ride off in the direction of Preston. He pursued him for some distance but couldn't overtake him.
Two hours later, Kay was found at the Old England Hotel, Ribbleton Lane, where he disposed of the machine for a £1. He was remanded until Saturday, bail being allowed.
