NOTES
By June 1843, Preston had left the Machine Makers' Arms, and become insolvent.
In the 1841 Census, Lydia's parents, William & Ellen were both listed, William as the publican.
Meager went to Clarence House in Grimshaw Street.
Referred to as the "New Inn" in the Preston Guardian of 26th January 1850, considerably earlier than the note below from 1871.
Again, in the newspapers of 8th March 1856, 13th September 1856, and 19th September 1857, William Clayton was said to be at the "New Inn".

In 1871, James O'Leary applied to the Court for permission to change the name of the pub from this to the "NEW INN." In 1872, the Preston Chronicle referred to the premises as "JAMES O'LEARY'S INN"
