This 'trade token' may be a rather late example of what was used a lot in the 19th century. An interesting example in Preston was at the 'George Inn Concert Hall' in Friargate. In that instance the tokens were charged for on the door, and exchangeable at the bar for food and drink.
This one would seem to be tradeable in exchange for a half pint of Saxton's home-brewed beer.
Arthur Saxton was present at the New Inn from 1932 until 1936, but the dates could be extended at both ends.
