SELLERS PROTECTION ASSOCIATION -
A Special General Meeting of the above association
was held at the Mill Tavern, North Road, on Wednesday,
to discuss the propriety of subscribing towards the
guaranteed fund required from the Corporation for the
Royal Agricultural Society's show, to be held in Preston
in 1877. Mr. John Leaver was in the chair. After some
little discussion on the question, the sum of £15 was

ASSAULTING A MOTHER
Thomas Seddon was charged with assaulting his
mother, Sarah Jolly, landlady of the Mill Tavern,
North Road.
For some time back the prisoner had been living
at the expense of his mother, and had not worked to
maintain himself. On Thuesday night last he went
home the worse for frink, and was remonstrated with
by Mrs. Jolly, telling him that that sort of thing would
not do, and that he must have better conduct. Seddon
rished at her, pushed her about, and struck her several
times in the face. She said she did not want to punish the
prisoner, but wanted him to promise not to go near her
agaiu, or annoy her. He was discharged with Mrs. Jolly
paying all the expenses,
