THUNDERSTORM AT PRESTON
On the 24th inst., The Mechanics' Arms Inn, in Fish
Street, Lancaster Road, occupied by Mr Thomas
Brayshaw, was struck by the electric fluid about
midnight. Part of the stack of chimneys was hurled
into the yard; about three feet square of the slating
of the roof was torn off; the gas piping underneath
was melted, the gas ignited, and the rafters set on
fire. The startled inmates raised the alarm, and the
fire brigade, after an hour's hard work, extinguished
the flames.
