IN AN ARTICLE ABOUT CORPORATION LICENCES:
.............whether the Eldon Hotel was built at the Corporation's
expense I don't know, but in the article it says:-
"Some years ago they (the Corporation) were offered £500 for
one of their licences for what is now the Eldon Hotel. The
Council, however, rejected the offer, and two years later the
applicant got the licence for nothing."
