ANOTHER  PUBLICAN  FINED
Richard Speight, landlord of the Hornby Castle Inn, Brook Street, Mary Carter, Catherine Brogden, and Mary Hoban, were summoned for an infringement of the licensing laws.
P.C. Merritt visited Speight's premises at 3.20 on Sunday afternoon, July 20th, and, having obtained access by the back door, found the female defendants sitting each with a glass of rum and water before them. Carter said she had gone for the tea. They all lived in that neighbourhood.
P.C. Moss said that on going into the yard he found Speight with a jug containing some beer. Speight stated that he and his wife were going out to his house to keep his mother company. With regard to the jug he was bringing through the yard, some beer had been sold in it to a neighbour, and that he had been for it.
The Bench considered the case proved, and fined Speight 20 shillings and costs, and Carter, Brogden and Hoban 5 shillings and costs each.

It can't be coincidence that I have a note that says that there was a Roger Dilworth
at a beerhouse in Park Road. That was in the Preston Chronicle of 25.8.1860, twenty years before this Roger Dilworth. Could it have been his father? Also, it's the only time I've come across a Hornby Castle in Park Road.  Very interesting!
