COCK AND BOTTLE, Back Lane

COCK AND BOTTLE,
Back Lane
(now Market Street)
*
It is my belief that this was the original, or a former name,
of the Earl of Derby's "DERBY INN"
*
The following is taken from  Conveyance document that I came
across in the Lancashire Record Office:

Ref.  DDK 802/38  dated 22nd June 1789

................from Edward Earl of Derby...........all that messuage or
dwellinghouse with the beerhouse and five stables thereunto belonging,
situate standing and being in the Back Weind in Preston, and commonly
called or known by the name of the COCK AND BOTTLE in the
possession of James Taylor.
*
The premises formerly belonged to William Shawe the elder, in
right of his wife, and of Mrs. Hammond, her mother.
(also from the same document)
*
MINE HOST:
1789          James Taylor
1802          Mr. Scott
*

Lancaster Gazette  16th January 1802
