OLD SIR SIMON, Friargate

OLD SIR SIMON    #
76 Friargate
A reminder of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, the cute old Jacobite chief who
helped on the Rebellion of 1745, and who, in 1747, was tried in London
for treason, found guilty, and beheaded.

ROBBERY OF MONEY FROM THE PERSON
Jane McNally, a middle-aged woman with
a child in her arms, was charged with stealing
15 shillings in money from the person of an
old man named Patrick Mee.
It appeared that on the morning of the 19th inst.,
the prosecutor took the prisoner into the Old Sir
Simon to treat her with a glass of beer, and whilst
there felt her put her hand in his pocket. He
immediately went out and returned with P.C. Berry,
and gave her into custody. When charged with the
offence by the constable she stated that he had
given her the money.

The prisoner pleaded guilty, and was ordered to
be committed to the Lancaster Castle for on
calendar month, with hard labour.
