The plan that accompanied the Indenture referred to below,
is almost exactly the same as it is now, over 200 years later -
including the cut-off shape to the kerbing.
Have a look next time you're near the bus station, as
Tithebarn Street turns into Lord Street.

In an Indenture dated 1793, between

Thomas Winckley and Seth Gorman,

plumber and glazier, all that messuage

or dwellinghouse situate and standing

at the top or eastern extremity of the

north side of the Back Wiend in Preston

aforesaid, used as a Public House and

now known by the sign of "THE STOCKING",

together with the barn adjoining thereto 

(now used as a carrier's warehouse)......

now in the possession of Edward Dewhurst
