I have a note from the Preston Chronicle 10.10.1891 which
says that a WILLIAM WHITESIDE, aged 60 years, of
Bamber Bridge, died at the Peel Hall Hotel on the 18.9.1891.
Presumably the father of W.W. the landlord here?

The small street off Peel Hall Street with the pub on the corner was called Baring Street. There were only four houses, two on each side. The left side facing were nos. 21 and 22 and on the opposite side were nos 1 and 2. I lived there from 1942 to 1960
