A  HOUSE  OF  ILL-FAME.
An information was on Wednesday laid against Peter Yates and his wife, the keepers of a notorious beer-house and brothel in Back Lane, for entertaining bad women etc.  It appeared, however, that there had been a subsequent information upon which the defendant was fined, and that the present one could not be sustained.
Other informations for similar offences since, however, in preparation against the same party, but on Mr. Ashcroft producing evidence that they were then removing entirely from the house, and agreeing to inform them that if they did not leave, these informations would be brought against them, and the highest fine inflicted, the case was dropped, the object of the magistrates solely being to put down a house which had long been a notorious sink infamy and vice.
