NEW HOUSE TO LET
Newly erected INN or PUBLIC HOUSE (recently licensed) called
the "CHURCH HOUSE", situate at the junction of the Great North
and Lancaster Roads in Preston.
The House contains 11 rooms, with a Gig House, Yard and Stabling.
-
Further particulars apply to Richard Duckett, the Owner, Auctioneer, Preston.
Preston Chronicle 18th October 1839
This advertisement refers to "Church House" - and, indeed, it was right outside
St. Thomas's Church, providing stabling for some members of the congregation no doubt -
but I don't think it was ever called by this name. However, about ten years earlier, another
public house opened on Lancaster Road which was named "Church House Tavern"

Preston Chronicle 28th October 1843 I've put this in purely because it mentions the Church Hotel. I don't think he was ever the landlord there, perhaps just a lodger? |
