A GIN DRINKER
At the Town Hall on Thursday, Margery Smith
was charged with helping herself to gin and not
paying for the liquor at the Bee Hive public house
in Marsh Lane, Preston.
The Magistrates told her that she was too fond of gin ,
and fined her in the sum of five shillings.
Margery denied being fond of gin-twist, but
confessed to a liking for a drop of ale.

A VERY interesting advertisment, detailing the position of property on the opposite side of Bridge Lane from the Bee Hive Inn. From 1869 until 1871, Thomas Webster was at the Butchers' Arms at 68 Friargate, at the corner of what is now Marsh Lane, (Halewoods Book Shop). It had previously been called the Brewers' Arms, and was later known at the Burton Arms. Click any to take you to the page.
My own feeling is that there was another Butchers' Arms close to the railway bridge on Marsh Lane, and that Thomas Webster moved from one to the other in 1869, and renamed it as above).

A portion of the 'Bee Hive' public house, Bridge Lane,
has been pulled down and rebuilt, in consequence of the
railway, which runs past near the house, having been
widened.
Brewster Sessions 1878
At the same sessions there was an application made to
change the name from the 'Bee Hive' to the 'NORTH
WESTERN STORES,' but it seems not to have been
adopted.

The above article was contributed by Janet Davis and Lorna Ivory, who are
researching the same family. Many thanks both.
BOOSTER: It would seem that a 'booster' was a part of a horse-drawn carriage,
being a raised area to 'boost' the elevation.
Unless someone know differently.

It's possible that she was the final occupant of the Bee Hive.
Inbetween (1917 - 24) there was Thomas Gregson. I don't know yet how he was related.
