Apparently the man, top left, wearing spectacles, was the landlord at the time, Bill Fairhurst. He took the pub over from his grand-parents.
With thanks to Bill Fairhurst 's niece for this info!

  2. The people in the 1861 census are my relatives. Robert Blacklidge/Blackledge is actually the brother in law of the landlord, brother of Ellen. Not sure who Jeffrey is yet but I'm working on it

    1. Thanks Joanne (nee Smith). Hope you're all well. As nephew of Ellen, could he be Robert's son?

Charles Parratt landlord in 1936 was an uncle. He was from South Devon, but met Beattie, who had come to Preston from Northumberland for work. After marrying, they became landlord and landlady. He left to serve in the Navy during WW2, and afterwards settled back home in Sidmouth. There are 2 surviving children, a daughter in Sidmouth and a son in New South Wales.
    Cheers!
