ANGLERS' ARMS / ANGLERS' HOME #
6 Avenham Lane
Formerly known as the "Fat Scott"
[A Fat Scott was the name of a breed of sheep.
There was a sheep market / slaughterhouse across the road from it]
*
The drawing is slightly mis-leading. Oxford Street is almost opposite to the Syke Street opening, but it's position between the two streets shown, on the south side of Avenham Lane, is certain. |

PRESTON ANGLERS' ASSOCIATION
The fourth annual dinner of the Preston Anglers' Association took place on Thursday evening last, at the house of Mrs. Holderness, Anglers' Home. Between twenty and thirty members sat down to an excellent supper. Mr. John Barnes was called upon to preside, whilst Mr. Joseph Weilden ably officiated as vice. The usual loyal toasts being disposed of, the chairman distributed the prizes won during the past year, congratulating the recipients, and wishing them future success. The party was then entertained with some excellent songs and recitations, after which the health of the honorary members was proposed, coupled with the names of Messrs. Barnes and Parker, who were thanks for their liberal support of the society since its commencement. This was responded to by the chairman in a neat speech, in which he expressed the pleasure the society afforded him, and wished them all future success. The party soon after broke up, all having spent a most enjoyable evening.
