NOT  QUITE  DEAD
The people of Preston were somewhat stunned on Wednesday
morning through an announcement made by one of our
contemporaries to the effect that Mr. Finlay Ringland, former
Inspector of Police, had suddenly expired on the previous day.

All sorts of rumours were afloat as to the cause of his death;
but every conjecture was wide of the mark, for Mr. Ringland
had not "shuffled off this mortal coil," and gave no more
indication of extinction on Tuesday than the healthiest man
in Preston.

After breakfast time on Wednesday morning, one of the police
officers of the borough, whose duty it is to make enquiries into
cases of sudden death preparatory to an inquest being held,
went to Mr. Ringland's residence for the purpose of obtaining
the particulars of his death.

Imagine his surprise, however, when on entering the house he
found Mr. Ringlnad shaving himself! The officer fainted - fell
down as if definitely "done for" - and Mr. Ringland, the
"dead man" had to assist in removing him.

Afterwards, Mr. Ringland went out, to the astonishment of all,
and the complete terror of some, who saw him and who had
only just read of his quietus.
