SUPPOSED SUICIDE
On Thursday 2nd December 1858, at about 7 o'clock, Mrs Alice Nixon,
wife of the landlord of the Bank Tavern, in Moor Lane, chided one of her
children, as her husband thought unnecessarily, and he expostulated with her.
On that she left the house, and was never seen alive again, her dead body
being found on Saturday morning in the lodge of Mr. J. Humber's mill opposite
the Bank Tavern. The deceased presented a shocking spectacle, the water of the
lodge being warm.
An inquest was held at the Duke of York public house, Friargate,
Verdict, "Found drowned."
