DROWNED IN THE CANAL
On Wednesday morning, the dead body of John Arkwright,
a tallow chandler, was found in the canal near the Watery-lane Inn,
at Preston. It appeared from the evidence given at the inquest,
held on Thursday last, the place is a dangerous one for passengers,
and the jury recommended that a plot of land adjoining the canal at
that place be fenced off. Verdict: Accidental Death.
Lytham and Kirkham Times 1st January 1873
I have never come across a 'Watery-lane Inn' elsewhere,
and this seems to be the most likely one referred to.
