BOY KILLED - INQUEST
On Monday last, an accident occurred that terminated with
instantaneous death, to a boy named Thomas Flintoff, 14 - 15
years, son of Mr. William Flintoff, of the George the Third Inn,
Brook Street, at the premises of Mr. Allsup, engineers, & Co.,
Lower Pitt Street. At the inquest at the Police Station, a verdict
of 'accidentally killed' was recorded.

He, along with another boy, were carrying a heavy metal pipe
near the planing machine. The deceased, who was going backwards,
was caught by a wheel on the planing machine, which crushed his
back and ribs dreadfully. The boy who was with him threw off the
wheel strap and stopped the machine, but when he was released he
only breathed two or three times and then expired. Efforts to
save him were to no avail.
