A ROW BETWEEN TWO BONIFACES
John Meadows, landlord of the Lord Nelson,
North Road, summoned Thomas Swindlehurst,
landlord of the Stone Cottage, Egan Street, for
an assault.
Meadows stated that while he was sitting in the
Three Tuns Inn, about 8 o'clock on Friday night
(week), the defendant came in, and without any
provocation struck him a blow on the head. He
was not hurt, but he did not like to be treated in
the way the defendant had treated him.
He was not drunk, having only had one glass
of ale. He had never had a quarrel with the
defendant, and he did not understand what had
made him strike him.
After a patient hearing, the Bench fined the
defendant 20s. and costs.
