PUBLIC HOUSE DRINKING ON CHRISTMAS DAY
Henry Eccles, landlord of the Foresters' Arms, Newton
Street, was summoned for serving intoxicating drink at
7.45am on the morning of Christmas Day.

PC's Bartlett and Woodcock saw seven men go into
the defendant's house, and saw the defendant fill a pint
pot with ale. They knocked at the door but were not let
in for some time. They went round the back of the house,
and met one man coming out. Upon going into the house
they found several measures.

Eccles denied serving any drink, and accused one of the
constables of swearing at him when in the house.

Fined 10s and costs. The man caught coming out, James
Bolton, was ordered to pay costs.
